/vey-kay/: a vacation. (duh)

Cancún anyone?

I went last week for the first time with the hubs and it definitely lived up to the hype!

We stayed at Hyatt Ziva and it was absolutely b e a u t i f u l 😍 On your way there from the airport, you'll drive past 100 different resorts before arriving at Ziva. It's located right at the very corner of the Hotel Zone, so you have beach/ocean access on both sides - it's amazing!

This was my first time at an all-inclusive resort and I wasn't sure if I would feel trapped or get sick of the food, but that was absolutely not the case for us. The resort had 10 restaurants and 8 bars that you could enjoy throughout your stay and they were all great. We stayed in an "adults-only" tower and our room was stunning. It was huge, fully stocked mini-fridge (refilled every night), and had a private jacuzzi on the balcony that overlooked the ocean!

We didn't leave the resort once, but there was still so much to do. There were multiple pools to choose from, beach/ocean access on both sides of the coast, swim up bar (holla!), adult-only rooftop pool, cabanas for dayzzz, activities throughout the day (water aerobics, ceviché making, water polo, beach vollyeball, kayaking, paddleboarding, dance lessons, etc), nightly entertainment in the theater (mayan dance, fire dance, acrobats, karaoke), after-parties (disco, havana nights), and so so much more.

Our daily schedule was: pool, ocean, pool, ocean, hot tub, pool, ocean (with lots of tacos and mezcalitas thrown in there). Repeat for the next four days.

My highlight was definitely getting to swim with the dolphins!!!! #dreamcometrue Our resort had dolphins on-site that you could sign up to swim with. I was seriously mesmerized every time I walked by them and had to sign up to swim with them! During our session, we were able to touch and feel the dolphins, do tricks with them (get a kiss, splash the water, watch them dance, hug them), and do a dorsal ride! They were absolutely gorgeous animals and it was an unforgettable experience to be able to play with them.

Overall, it was such a relaxing and refreshing trip, but what ultimately contributed to a successful vacay: the company ❤️ I loved being able to get away with the hubs with just the two of us! Marriage is definitely something worth investing into and these little get aways are everything to us.

Even with all the hype, be sure to add Cancún to your list - it's worth going to!

xx, Amber

  • Get your hotel/resort to figure out your travel to/from the airport for you. We didn't find out until later that if you stayed for a minimum number of nights, the hotel would cover your taxi fees and organize it for you. We booked a private taxi through Super Shuttle (roundtrip $60) after landing in Cancún and they were great getting us to the hotel, but organizing the pickup was a nightmare - wouldn't recommend.

  • Start your day at the gym. Confession: my hubs literally had to force me to go every morning lol, but I was glad I did. After all the food/dranks that I would have in the day, it was nice to know that at least I got a workout in there somewhere. 😅
